On October 26, 2009, Martha's Village & Kitchen received 42 brand new kids’ costumes from Hope Lutheran Church that were collected through a Halloween Costume Drive they conducted at the Church and at Eisenhower Medical Center’s surgery department from Sept. 15, 2009 – Oct. 25, 2009. They were delivered to the Village by 15-year old, Kathryn Cleary, who happily spear-headed the successful drive, and the Hope Lutheran’s Youth Pastor, Derek Fossey. “I continue to be inspired by the generosity of people, “ Kathryn says.
As they entered the Martha’s Village Children’s Center, they were soon surrounded by little ones who couldn’t wait to see what possible characters they could portray on Halloween, from Spider Man to pirates, from ballerinas to princesses, and from pumpkins to firemen.
On behalf of all the children who live at Martha's Village & Kitchen’s transitional housing, we want to sincerely thank the people at Hope Lutheran Church who opened their hearts so that these children, whose parents otherwise could not afford to buy or create costumes for their children, could enjoy Halloween and make believe they are someone else for a change.
