Guidepost is a Christian-faith based non-profit organization founded in 1945 by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, Raymond Thornburg, and Peale's wife, Ruth Stafford Peale. The Guideposts organization is headquartered in Carmel, New York. Its purpose is to share true stories of hope, faith, personal growth and positive thinking, plus inspiring quotes, daily devotionals and prayers for every need. Its primary activities are publishing Guideposts magazines and maintaining an outreach ministry service. For more details, see www.guideposts.org.
In the Medical Clinic, Guideposts Comfort Kits, are distributed to children experiencing trauma. Books are given to children receiving immunizations. These items comfort the children and reduce their fears about the medical clinic.
The Chaplaincy Services at Martha’s Village, distributes and uses the books from Guideposts help to inspire Martha’s Village residents to develop coping skills and a positive attitude and outlook on life. The books are also used to spark discussion about approaches to overcoming daily pressures and demonstrate how prayer can help recovery of mind, body and spirit.
