(Indio, Calif. - July 8, 2010) - In this photograph, Martha's Village & Kitchen’s Executive Director, John Wolohan, gratefully accepted a generous $3,000 check from the City of Indio in answer to the appeal to help fill the nearly empty emergency food pantry shelves.

The check was delivered by Jesus Gomez, City of Indio Housing Programs Manager. When the Indio City Council stepped in to help, Martha’s Village had only enough food on hand for four families. Many of the families helped by this donation are the so called “working poor” whose budgets cannot stretch enough to provide sufficient food for their children. The food purchased with this money will feed 425 families for 3 days.
Martha's Village & Kitchen still seeks help in keeping the food pantry stocked to respond to the daily requests that are received. Canned goods, pasta, rice and baby items are needed and can be dropped off at the shelter at:
83-791 Date Ave., Indio, CA 92201
