When Father Joe Carroll took over a lunch line and thrift store in downtown San Diego 25 years ago, he quickly discovered that providing food and clothing to those in need was simply bandaging a more deeply rooted problem. Through his “one-stop model” Father Joe has pioneered an industry and helped shape social services in America, providing comprehensive services under one roof and emphasizing the most fundamental of all principals – human dignity.
